Privacy Policy
Warwickly is a social and matching app for University of Warwick freshers. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, who helps us process it, and the rights you have over it. We've tried to keep it human and honest rather than burying it in legalese.
In this policy, "Warwickly", "we" and "us" means the person who operates the Warwickly service. You can reach us any time at privacy@warwickly.com.
What we collect
We only collect what we need to run the app for you:
- Account details.Your email address, used to sign you in through Supabase Auth via a magic link or one-time code. We don't store a password.
- Profile information you give us.Your name, age, gender, home location, where you're flying/travelling from and your arrival date, your course, your hall, your interests and "looking for" badges, a short bio, an avatar photo, and any optional contact handles you choose to add (LinkedIn, Instagram, X, email, WhatsApp).
- Your activity in the app. Connection requests and in-app chat messages, anonymous confessions, and forum posts and votes.
- Notification tokens. If you turn on notifications, a device push token (Firebase Cloud Messaging) and/or a web-push subscription, so we can let you know about new connections and messages.
- Product analytics. Basic usage events (for example, opening a screen or sending a connection request) via Mixpanel. These are linked to your Supabase user ID rather than your email, and each event carries your app version and platform.
How we use it
- To create your account and sign you in.
- To build your profile, suggest matches, and let you connect and chat with other members.
- To run the confessions and forum features.
- To send you notifications and service emails (like a new-connection alert), and — only if you've opted in — occasional non-essential updates.
- To understand how the app is used so we can fix problems and make it better.
- To keep the community safe and enforce our rules.
Who helps us process your data
We use a small number of trusted third-party providers ("sub-processors") to run Warwickly. We share only what each one needs to do its job:
- Supabase — our database and authentication, hosted in the EU (London, eu-west-2).
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) — email delivery (SES), app hosting (Amplify) and DNS (Route 53).
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging — Android push notifications.
- Mixpanel — product analytics.
We don't sell your personal data, and we don't share it with advertisers.
Legal bases (UK & EU GDPR)
Most of our members are in the UK and EU, so both UK GDPR and EU GDPR apply. We rely on:
- Performing our contract with you (and our legitimate interest in running the service) — to provide the core app: your account, profile, matching, connections and chat.
- Your consent — for analytics and any non-essential emails. You can withdraw it at any time (see below).
Where your data is handled
Your data is stored in the EU/UK (via Supabase in London). To be fully transparent: the person who operates and administers Warwickly is based in India, which means an administrator outside the UK/EU may access your data to run and support the service. This is an international data transfer, and we handle your data with the same care wherever it's accessed from.
Your rights
Under UK and EU GDPR you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- correct anything that's wrong (rectification);
- ask us to delete your data (erasure);
- get a copy of your data in a portable format (portability);
- restrict or object to how we use it;
- withdraw any consent you've given.
To exercise any of these, just email privacy@warwickly.comand we'll sort it out. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we'll delete your personal data. You can opt out of emails at any time using the one-click unsubscribe link in any email, and turn off push notifications in your device settings.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use a session cookie to keep you signed in, and analytics (via Mixpanel) to understand usage. We don't use advertising cookies.
Age
Warwickly is intended for university students, who are 18 or over. If we find an account belongs to someone under 18, we'll remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes, we'll update this page and change the "last updated" date at the top.
